Introducing Venus, a multifunctional furniture piece designed to cradle mothers and their children through all stages from pregnancy to early childhood. Inspired by ancient Iranian art, this project by Golnoush Zamani and Hajar Shahsavari offers a unique blend of tradition and modern functionality.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Golnoush Zamani and Hajar Shahsavari have created Venus, a unique piece of cradle furniture inspired by ancient Iranian art. The design draws inspiration from the Neolithic era, particularly the clay statues known as Venus, symbolizing the importance of women in the fertility of the earth. These statues, with their minimalist aesthetic and exaggerated sexual organs, served as the primary influence for the multifunctional furniture.
Venus serves as a comfortable area for mothers and their children, providing a space for rest during pregnancy, listening to the fetus's heartbeat, feeding and resting with the baby, and serving as a cradle for up to a 5-year-old child. The oval-shaped structure is made of wood, filled with Upholstery Foam, and covered with fabric. The design also incorporates a stethoscope technology for the pillow, allowing mothers to hear the fetus's heartbeat.
The project, which started in Isfahan, Iran, in July 2020 and was completed in December 2020, has received recognition in the design community. Venus was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022, acknowledging its practical and innovative design that meets professional and industrial requirements.
