Berliner: Redefining Seating with Enhanced Functionality

Tugce Sonmez Evin introduces Berliner, a multifunctional pouf designed to optimize space utilization in modern living and working environments. The large round pouf features a solid wood container unit in the middle, providing storage and display space for magazines, books, and other items. The design is a response to the need for smart solutions that save space while offering comfort.

Berliner's wooden core is hand-carved on a turning lathe and upholstered with a faux fur for a soft velvety touch. The design is completed with two brass rings emphasizing the separation between different materials, adding a touch of elegance to its functionality.

The production process of Berliner involved 3D printing of scaled versions for evaluating proportions, followed by hand-carving the wooden core and pouf frame from laminated wood blocks. The seating foam is hand-sculpted and upholstered, while the brass rings are bent by hand and welded to fit tightly. The design is suitable for production by CNC machines, offering a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing techniques.

Measuring 850mm x 850mm x 470mm, Berliner features a wooden core made of Ayous, an MDF frame, brass rings with a satin finish, and synthetic fur upholstery. Its unique design and functionality make it a versatile piece suitable for various settings, from waiting lounges to office spaces and homes.

The Berliner pouf not only provides comfortable seating but also serves as a practical storage and display unit, offering easy access to stored items. Its nestlike wooden core ensures good visibility for the objects stored while securely keeping them in place, making it an ideal asset for waiting lounge seating furniture.

Registered to Tugce Sonmez Evin in 2022, Berliner has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2023, showcasing outstanding expertise and innovation in its design.
