Gemdale the Voyager: Blending Modernity and Tradition

Smart House Library's latest project, Gemdale the Voyager, is a sales office located in Yunnan, China, designed to seamlessly integrate modern architecture with the natural surroundings and local culture. The interior design reinterprets national cultural characteristics, resulting in a space that is flexible, elegant, and distinct.

The project, covering an area of 980 square meters, features a minimalist architectural form with a glass curtain wall that connects the indoor and outdoor spaces, reflecting the beauty of the mutual penetration of modern architecture and nature.

To achieve harmony with the surroundings, the color palette integrates lake blue and earth colors, enhancing the dialogue with nature. The use of cotton and linen fabrics further increases the breath of nature in the space, highlighting the connection with the environment.

With a focus on the refinement of local culture, the sales office adopts cultural elements of sails in the hall, expressing the elegance and heritage of the region. The design also maximizes the transparency of space, allowing visitors to enjoy the outdoor scenery from any perspective.

Smart House Library's design team, led by Susan Sun and Nancy Fang, completed the project in September 2019 after starting in April of the same year. The space was designed to be sensitive and friendly to the environment, offering a comprehensive aesthetic experience of life through visual color, touch, and the interplay of light and shadow.
