Introducing Balanco, a series of multifaceted blocks designed by Lisa J. Lai and Joel Wong, offering unlimited possibilities for play, stacking, and relaxation.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Amidst the persistence of the pandemic, finding peace and mental wellness at home has become increasingly important. Inspired by the tranquility of pebble towers, Balanco aims to bring physical and inner balance to highly populated cities, offering a playful yet practical solution for friends and families to enjoy together.
Balanco consists of a series of multifaceted blocks that can be arranged, positioned, and stacked in countless ways, promoting patience and calmness while balancing the blocks. When not in use for play, these blocks double as stools and tables for both adults and children, adding a versatile functionality to their design.
The lightweight yet solid structure of Balanco makes it safe for young children while remaining strong enough for adults to sit and stand on. The earth-tone felt finish invites nature vibes into the house, providing a soft and comfortable touch for users. With varying sizes to accommodate ergonomics and heights, Balanco functions as play objects, stools, and tables, catering to a wide range of users.
Documented and exhibited as part of the HKTDC's programme in Hong Kong, Balanco was developed from October to December 2020, aiming to deliver a design with a strong concept through aesthetic simplicity. The project was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
