YINGRI GUAN's Cava series is a mesmerizing light installation, drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns found in caves, realized through mathematical methods and realized using laser-cut acrylic glass and LED lights.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YINGRI GUAN's Cava series is a breathtaking light installation that takes inspiration from the mesmerizing formations found in caves. The project, which spans 6 months of meticulous work, was created in the San Francisco Bay Area. The design process involved the use of mathematical methods to visualize cave patterns and formations, resulting in a truly unique and captivating piece of art.
The Cava series is brought to life through a meticulous process that begins with generating a series of images and vectors based on the analytical processes of cave formations. These shapes are then etched onto acrylic glass using a laser cutter. The final assembly involves integrating the etched acrylic glass with LED lights and pedestals, resulting in a stunning visual display that captures the essence of cave formations.
YINGRI GUAN's innovative approach to this project involved overcoming significant creative and technical challenges. The most notable of these was abstracting naturally occurring visual patterns and formations into an abstract mathematical formula that could be implemented and manipulated to create different images. The result is a series of vector images that were generated through computational design, transforming cave patterns into mesmerizing three-dimensional installations.
