Shared Knowledge Library at Jinan Cultural Archives Center

The Jinan Cultural Archives Center, located in Lixia District, Shandong Province, has unveiled a revolutionary library concept designed by Muchuan Xu. The library, spanning the 2nd to 4th floors of the center, aims to provide a diverse and shared space for residents of all ages, fostering a culture of shared knowledge and community engagement.

Xu's design approach involved optimizing the sight relationship in the space, adding functional areas, and reorganizing social behavior to promote the realization of "shared knowledge." The library's strategic location within the cultural and archives center, surrounded by cultural, educational, and creative resources, further enhances its role as a cultural carrier.

Utilizing innovative reconstruction techniques, Xu and the design team reorganized and restructured the existing building to create a dynamic and inclusive shared space. The library's unique features include diversified human-scale spaces, promoting a sense of community and interaction among local residents.

The Shared Knowledge Library not only provides a space for residents to develop good reading habits but also facilitates various social, cultural, entertainment, and sports activities, fostering a vibrant and sharing community.

Completed in June 2021, the project has garnered international recognition, receiving the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2022 for its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable design values.
