Renowned designer Saman Sabbaghi introduces Zima, a handcrafted casual footwear inspired by traditional Persian shoe making, combining sustainability and high-tech materials, and recognized with a prestigious A' Design Award.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saman Sabbaghi, an acclaimed designer, has unveiled Zima, a revolutionary handcrafted casual footwear inspired by the traditional Persian shoe making technique known as Giveh. Zima, meaning "Walk on the earth," integrates sustainable materials such as cork composite shoelace and Nano fabric for the weaving upper part. The design also incorporates Artificial Intelligence to reimagine the traditional Giveh, ensuring ergonomic features and a sustainable approach.
The production of Zima involves innovative methods, including the use of a combination of cork granule and polyurethane for the sole, and the traditional Giveh-Baafi technique for the woven upper part. Additionally, Zima's unique design elements were created using Artificial Intelligence, resulting in a product that aligns with modern standards while preserving traditional craftsmanship.
The project, initiated in December 2021 and completed in April 2022 in Tehran, Iran, involved extensive research, including user-centered approaches, interaction design, and the analysis of relevant experts' insights. Zima's unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology has garnered attention, earning Saman Sabbaghi the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Footwear, Shoes, and Boots Design category in 2023.
