Tomoki Doi introduces "Overlap," a revolutionary sofa design completed in October 2021, challenging traditional concepts of seating furniture.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer Tomoki Doi has unveiled "Overlap," a groundbreaking sofa design that reimagines the conventional concept of seating furniture. Departing from the typical sofa structure, "Overlap" is the result of Doi's innovative approach, which involved adding a sitting function to a simple rectangular object. By eschewing the traditional elements of a sofa and focusing on the combination of two components, "Overlap" offers new uses and various combinations, transforming the way we perceive and interact with sofas.
Achieving a distinctive look through the overlapping of two blocks, "Overlap" presents an object-like appearance that evolves with every viewing angle. The off-axis backrest and seat layout create a flat surface, enabling diverse usages and arrangements. When multiple units are placed side by side, the backrest and seating surface seamlessly merge into a unified element, offering a seamless and versatile seating solution.
Constructed using wood, urethane, and fabric, "Overlap" boasts dimensions of W1955 D1063 H780, making it suitable for various settings, including public spaces. Doi envisions "Overlap" as a central or corner piece in rooms, while in public spaces, it can be combined in straight lines, zigzags, squares, or crosses, offering flexibility and adaptability in diverse environments.
