FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mashav: Wearable Ventilation System

Ofri Shapira's Mashav is a two-piece garment inspired by the traditional Galabiya, designed to address the need for comfortable, breathable clothing in rising temperatures due to the climate crisis. The dress utilizes the "Chimney Effect" to create air circulation within the garment, while the hood features a solar ventilation system that enhances airflow to the neck and head area.

The garment is constructed with a sweat-wicking fabric that also offers moderate wind protection to create the chimney effect. The electronic components, including blower fans, are powered by flexible solar panels embedded in the plastic shell and charged by solar energy. The dress is full-length and can be made in various sizes.

The electronic cooling system targets areas with wide blood vessels, providing an effective overall cooling effect. It can be operated by attaching electronic units to the garment using magnets, with the front zip acting as a switch to power the system.

Ofri Shapira's Mashav project is the result of extensive research into human body heat regulation in hot weather, drawing inspiration from the traditional Galabiya dress worn by Bedouin society in the desert. The project was developed as Ofri's graduation project in Product Design Bachelor, tutored by Naama Steinbock at HIT - Holon Institute of Technology, from November 2022 to June 2022.

Ofri Shapira, a designer from Tel Aviv, Israel, has been recognized for her innovative approach with the Iron A' Design Award in 2023, highlighting the practical and innovative nature of Mashav as a well-designed creation that meets professional and industrial requirements.
