Renowned designer Wang Yili has unveiled OMI, a groundbreaking modular sweeping robot designed to transform outdoor cleaning in China. Inspired by the challenges faced by sanitation workers, OMI is a multifunctional, intelligent robot that adapts to various outdoor cleaning tasks, offering a revolutionary solution to the inefficiencies of traditional cleaning tools.
OMI is equipped with six interchangeable modules, including disinfection, vacuuming, sweeping, stagnant water treatment, guardrail cleaning, and water jet washing, making it suitable for diverse outdoor cleaning tasks in both sunny and rainy conditions. This innovative design aims to improve labor efficiency, reduce stress, and enhance working conditions for sanitation workers.
Constructed using cutting-edge technology, OMI utilizes vacuum technology, high-pressure water pump technology, electromagnetic adsorption technology, and environmental sensor technology. The modular sweeper is designed to automatically follow sanitation workers, facilitating seamless operation in designated areas.
Wang Yili, along with the design team, embarked on the OMI project in March 2020, with the goal of addressing the challenges faced by Chinese sanitation workers. Through extensive user interviews, field visits, and market research, the team identified key issues, including repetitive work, heavy workload, traffic hazards, and the physical exertion of manual cleaning. The result is OMI, a game-changing solution that enhances the work experience of sanitation workers and significantly improves outdoor cleaning efficiency.
OMI has already received industry recognition, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in Robotics, Automaton, and Automation Design in 2021. This prestigious accolade acknowledges OMI's outstanding design, technical innovation, and contribution to improving quality of life.
