You Ruei Lin's Remembrances in Light is a contemporary funeral home designed to symbolize the rebirth of life and provide a serene space for farewells. Completed in December 2021, this innovative project redefines traditional funeral home aesthetics with a focus on light and nature.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
You Ruei Lin's Remembrances in Light is a two-story funeral home adjacent to a traditional crematorium, featuring funeral cubicles arranged in a modern rectangular configuration. The design concept emphasizes the use of light as a medium to signify the transition from life to afterlife, creating a space that fosters hope and reminiscence.
The funeral home spans 115 square meters on the first floor and 380 square meters on the second floor, incorporating a blend of materials such as tile, ceramic plate, super wear-resistant wood floor, natural veneer, imported wallpaper, smart iron, mirror, and glass.
The project, initiated in April 2021 and completed in December 2021, offers a contemporary take on funeral home design, departing from traditional Chinese styles to embrace a more modern aesthetic.
The funeral home's interior features an open waiting area and ceremonial spaces on the upper floor, designed to allow natural light to permeate the space, creating a serene environment for mourners to reminisce and find solace. The design incorporates Zen-like elements, providing a tranquil setting for farewells and new beginnings.
One of the notable challenges overcome in the design process was the integration of cold metal frames, polished marble, and intricate wall engravings to create a multidimensional visual experience. The space also serves as a large-scale farewell venue, offering a dignified setting to honor and celebrate life achievements.
Remembrances in Light received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023, recognizing its innovative approach and contribution to quality of life improvements.
