Yawen Duan's Urban Park and Landscape Design Transforms Jiawang District's Ecological Landscape

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sustainable Restoration of Pan'an Lake National Wetland Park

Located in Jiawang District, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, Pan'an Lake National Wetland Park stands as a testament to the successful implementation of sustainable development concepts. The project, initiated eight years ago, has revitalized the ecological landscape by employing innovative soil transformation techniques and harnessing the natural purification effects of plants, resulting in a comprehensive scenic spot that integrates ecological wetland, cultural landscape, recreation, and science education functions.

The project's unique approach lies in its emphasis on subsided land remediation and ecological restoration. By meticulously analyzing soil conditions and implementing soil reconstruction techniques, the project has restored soil fertility and biodiversity, creating a healthy ecosystem while ensuring sustainable ecological effects.

The wetland park's design revolves around the core concept of wetland ecosystem, creating distinct water and land spaces. The criss-crossing water spaces, formed by connecting north and south water systems, attract birds with aquatic plants and provide sightseeing routes for cruise ships, fostering a harmonious interaction between man and nature.

The project, which commenced in January 2011 and concluded in August 2011, covers a total planned area of 52.89 square kilometers, including a 16 square kilometer core area. The successful transformation of Pan'an Lake Wetland Park has not only driven the industrial transformation of Jiawang District but also brought about significant ecological and social benefits.

The project's sustainable restoration approach has overcome the challenges posed by the historical ecological damage caused by coal mining, setting a benchmark for ecological restoration projects. Recognizing its excellence, the design was honored with the Silver A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design in 2021, underscoring its outstanding expertise and innovation in sustainable landscape design.
