Designer Tingyu Hu presents a surreal womenswear collection, inspired by De Chirico, 'Blood of a Poet', and classical ballet, showcasing illusion, space, and contrast.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Designer Tingyu Hu unveils a surreal womenswear collection, drawing inspiration from Giorgio De Chirico, 'Blood of a Poet', and classical ballet. The collection, titled "A Labyrinthine Journey of a Ballerina," presents a unique fusion of surrealism, fashion, and storytelling, reflecting the contrast between structure and softness. The garments are treated as 'paintings,' incorporating the bizarreness and emptiness of space from surrealism art and the delicacy of the ballerina, while emphasizing functionality. The collection features five looks in US Size 4, each showcasing illusion, space, and shadow through layering and crafts like silkscreen and hand-embroidery.
Tingyu Hu's design process focuses on creating dimensional garments while maintaining a balance of movement and abstraction. The use of boning and transparent fabrics enhances the 3D illusion and emphasizes the concept of dimension. The collection, shot in 2022, reflects Tingyu's vision of presenting the quirkiness and elegance of surrealism art, movies, and ballet costumes through asymmetrical shapes and textile contrasts.
Tingyu Hu's "A Labyrinthine Journey of a Ballerina" was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The collection captures the essence of surrealism and storytelling, offering a unique perspective on fashion and wearable art.
