FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WhoAteMyTofu: Typographic Project

Yuntong Sun's WhoAteMyTofu project is a unique endeavor inspired by the Chinese proverb "Eating Tofu," a metaphor for sexual harassment. The project aims to use typography as a tool for social change, providing visual design support for victims of sexual harassment and offering a new way to fight against it. The project also serves as a platform for victims to speak out and feel united, emphasizing that they are not alone.

Invoking the metaphorical concept of eating tofu, the project created an open type font design inspired by Tofu, along with the #whoatemytofu headline and web production poster concept. This innovative approach aims to offer people a new possibility to fight against sexual harassment and make them feel united. The font design, poster, and web design were all centered around the element of Tofu, with an open-source typeface design called The Tofu Type being a crucial part of the project.

Users can interact with the project by entering hurtful words they have heard during sexual harassment on the "Make your own poster" page, receiving a designed poster to share on social media with the hashtag #WhoAteMyTofu. Additionally, users can download and use the tofu typeface design for free on the site, inspired by the Chinese metaphor for Eating Tofu.

The project, which will be completed at Bauhaus University Weimar in March 2021, involved extensive research, including interviews with individuals who have experienced sexual harassment. Yuntong Sun's innovative approach aims to connect people in the fight against sexual harassment through extraordinary design, collecting and exposing the hurtful words used in sexual harassment.

Yuntong Sun, a young designer in the fields of visual communication, graphic, and typography, is the creative mind behind the WhoAteMyTofu project. She graduated from Beijing University of Technology in 2016 and Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany, with a master's degree in Visual Communication in 2021. Notably, the project was awarded Bronze in A' Social Design Award in 2022, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that contribute to quality of life improvements.
