Introducing the United Cinemas Terrace Mall Matsudo
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
United Cinemas Terrace Mall Matsudo, located in the bustling Terrace Mall in Matsudo city, Chiba prefecture, Japan, is a revolutionary cinematic experience designed by Kunihisa Akiyama. The concept behind this cinema complex is to offer diverse entertainment that caters to people of all ages and backgrounds, in line with the vibrant and inclusive atmosphere of the mall. With state-of-the-art technology and a focus on community engagement, this project has redefined the traditional movie-going experience.
This movie theater boasts three special movie format theaters - Imax, 4DX, and ScreenX - in addition to eight ordinary movie theaters. The Imax theater features one of the largest screen sizes in Japan, providing an immersive viewing experience like never before. The incorporation of cutting-edge technology, including Imax laser system, 4DX system, and ScreenX system, along with full automation projection and digital signage systems, ensures a seamless and captivating experience for movie enthusiasts.
Spanning 6,293 square meters with a total capacity of 1975 seats, the cinema complex offers a range of amenities, including two backstage dressing rooms, a projection room, and staff facilities. The integration of Imax technology from Canada, 4DX and ScreenX technology from Korea, and the expertise of SHIMIZU Corporation, a leading construction company in Japan, underscores the international collaboration and innovation behind this project.
Chief Interior Designer Shuwa Tei and Interior Designer Kei Sagara, along with Chief Graphic Designer Naoyuki Suzuki, have played pivotal roles in bringing Akiyama's vision to life. The design team's meticulous attention to detail and creative prowess have resulted in a visually stunning and functional space that caters to the diverse needs of moviegoers.
Opening its doors in 2019, the United Cinemas Terrace Mall Matsudo has quickly become a focal point of the community, offering a range of entertainment options for residents and visitors alike. By incorporating elements such as photo spots, graphic art, word art, and LED line lighting, the cinema complex has embraced the digital age, catering to the preferences of modern audiences.
Despite facing challenges related to construction costs and the need to create a unique identity within a limited budget, Akiyama's team successfully implemented innovative solutions. The installation of symbolic blue LED lights along the escalator and the use of 2D graphics with monochromatic tones have created a dynamic and visually captivating environment, enhancing the overall movie-going experience.
Kunihisa Akiyama's design for the United Cinemas Terrace Mall Matsudo has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2022, underscoring the project's outstanding creativity and contribution to enhancing the quality of life. Akiyama's commitment to creating a space that fosters community engagement and redefines the traditional cinema experience has garnered international acclaim, positioning this project as a benchmark for innovative design in the entertainment industry.
