Nakamura Kazunobu presents a three-dimensional stage art design that revolutionizes traditional Japanese dance
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nakamura Kazunobu's "Kasane no Irome - Piling up Colors" is a groundbreaking three-dimensional stage art design that redefines traditional Japanese dance. Inspired by the ancient Japanese practice of layering colors and paper to express sacred depth, this installation design aims to create a contemporary interpretation of Japanese dance, incorporating modern technology and design elements.
Unlike traditional two-dimensional stage art, this design utilizes the entire stage space, with panels floating in the air around the dancers, covering the sky above the stage and depicting the appearance of light passing through the space. The panels, made of a frame of thin steel square pipes and ultra-thin transparent threads, create a subtle interplay of light and color, allowing them to appear and disappear as the dancers move, resulting in a mesmerizing and dynamic performance.
Debuting on 12th June 2019 in Sakuragaokacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, this design has garnered global attention, with performances at the prestigious World Dance Festival "Festival d'Avignon 2019" and an upcoming appearance at "Festival d'Avignon 2020." This innovative stage art has received the Golden A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its exceptional creativity and impact on the world of performing arts.
