Naturgy's New Headquarters: D525 Barcelona

sanzpont [arquitectura] has successfully completed the sustainable renovation of Naturgy's new headquarters, D525 Barcelona, located at Diagonal 525, Barcelona, Spain. The project, which commenced in January 2020, was finalized in March 2021, transforming an existing building into a modern, eco-friendly office space.

The design inspiration for D525 Barcelona stemmed from the concept of recovering an existing building to reduce its environmental impact and provide greater sustainability for the future. The building's smooth and flowing forms were inspired by nature, breaking away from traditional rigid lines to create a pure and iconic structure.

The project integrates a main facade with large windows that provide natural light, featuring unique photocatalytic krion 3D modules that purify the air. Additionally, the south facade incorporates photovoltaic louvers to generate clean energy and minimize environmental impact.

D525 Barcelona spans 7,000 square meters with 10 levels of offices and networking areas. The building also features a roof garden on level 1, designed as a natural green space with low-consumption native plant species to enhance insulation and mitigate the heat island effect.

Naturgy's new headquarters symbolizes the company's transformation, offering sustainable, flexible, and collaborative work environments. The building houses corporate services and implements open space workstations, promoting mobility and paperless operations in line with the company's sustainability initiatives.

The project was not without its challenges, as the original building presented structural obstacles from its previous use as housing. However, through innovative design and technology, sanzpont [arquitectura] overcame these challenges to create a modern, sustainable office space.
