Traditional Chinese Kite Inspires Innovative Mooncake Gift Box Design
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A team of designers, including Xi Zhao, Shaoyang Ren, Gang Li, and Jiaqi Xuan, has unveiled a unique mooncake gift box design inspired by the traditional Weifang kite. The three-tiered structure, featuring elements such as butterfly kites, goldfish kites, and goldbufo kites, showcases the distinctive cultural symbols of Weifang, while offering a practical and aesthetic experience.
The innovative mooncake gift box design stands out with its three experiences, three levels, and three combinations, comprising small kite crafts, carved paper lamps, and mooncake cakes. This composite gift box aims to evoke sensory echoes of traditional cultural memory, catering to different consumer needs in appreciation, participation, taste, and aesthetic enjoyment.
Measuring 380mm in width, 380mm in length, and 150mm in height, the packaging is composed of a hard cardboard external box and 300 grams of special paper for the upper printed kite pattern. The interior features DIY kite material packages, allowing consumers to experience the craft process of making kites and interact with the design. The project, which commenced in Chongqing in July 2021 and was completed in October 2021, was awarded Bronze in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2023.
