Dion Seminara Architecture unveils the Toowong Renovation, a unique residential home project that maximizes a sloping block to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, completed in Brisbane.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dion Seminara Architecture has unveiled the remarkable Toowong Renovation, a residential home project that redefines modern living. The design concept was centered around future-proofing the home for the clients, ensuring a personalized and tailored living space that caters to their lifestyle needs. The project, which commenced in November 2018 and concluded in February 2020, is located in Brisbane and has garnered acclaim for its innovative approach to residential architecture.
The renovation project focused on maximizing the potential of a sloping block, presenting new design opportunities that would not have been achievable on a flat property. The integration of curved, rounded, and natural forms softened the hardscape surface and outdoor structure, creating a seamless transition from the home into the landscape. This not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also addressed challenges such as heat, restricted airflow, and natural light, resulting in a harmonious living environment.
Utilizing advanced technology and sustainable design principles, the project incorporated landscaping elements such as green roofs, a rainforest pond, and a veggie pavilion, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor spaces. The use of plain off-form concrete, natural sandstone cladding, and large recycled timber beams highlighted the landscape elements, while motorized high-level windows and shutters provided ventilation and controlled sunlight exposure.
The centerpiece of the design is the Aquascape Ecosystem pond, a low-maintenance, self-sustained aquatic feature that spans approximately 9m x 9.7m and 600mm deep. The pond, along with its integrated waterfall feature, exemplifies the project's commitment to creating a harmonious balance between nature and architecture.
Overcoming creative, technical, and material selection challenges, the design team, led by Principal Architect Dion Seminara and Project Lead Wai Lam (Albe) Pang, successfully brought the Toowong Renovation to life, earning recognition for its innovative and transformative approach to residential design.
