Chun Kong Au's redesign of Hangzhou West Lake Service Area prioritizes sustainability and visitor experience, drawing inspiration from local cultural stories and the city flower, Osmanthus.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer Chun Kong Au has unveiled the redesign of Hangzhou West Lake Service Area, located near Yuanpu Town of West Lake District. The project, awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2021, encompasses a comprehensive shopping mall-style space, integrating local cultural stories and the city's flower, Osmanthus, into its design.
The redesign prioritizes sustainability and visitor experience, featuring new service facilities such as a smart capsule hotel, unmanned convenience store, and unmanned coffee stand, incorporating face recognition technology to reduce social contacts amidst the global pandemic.
With an overall planning area of 61,408 square meters, the project's architectural design fully considers the visual connection between the space and the surrounding landscape. The exterior facades, composed of super white curtain wall glass and wooden grilles, combined with Osmanthus-shaped roofs, endow the buildings with a unique dynamic effect.
