Ying Chi Huang's cutting-edge YumChina Innovation Center in Shanghai, China, redefines office spaces with a focus on sensibility, rationality, and food.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YumChina's new Innovation Center defies limitations while conveying warmth, embracing sensibility and rationality. The 2500 sq. m. facility, designed by Ying Chi Huang, Jui Hsing Sung, and Kevin Conway, features a minimalist design aesthetic, with a focus on efficient office spaces and a visually appealing environment. The Innovation Center includes a test kitchen, sensory test area, and laboratories dedicated to quality assurance, restaurant and equipment technology, packaging, and new store prototypes. The design is a blend of functional considerations and innovative creativity, with a focus on embracing intelligent design to encourage fellowship, sensibility, rationality, and food.
The Innovation Center is an optimization of the creative food experience, carefully examining the food creation process and optimizing the space to enhance workflow and movement. The materials, colors, and textures were selected to support the sensory experience of new food creations, creating an atmosphere that fosters creativity and innovation. Specialized kitchens have been designed to provide efficient, hygienic, and thoughtful workspaces, with special HVAC, water, power, and data systems developed to fully support the Innovation Center activities.
From May 2018 to January 2018, the project brought together designers, contractors, and food experts to create a workplace that nurtures the important tasks of interpreting, developing, and refining the many food products offered by the Yum China family of restaurants. The Innovation Center is a winner of the prestigious A' Design Award, recognized for its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
