Camila Lerena's Florencia Lounge Chair, a Silver A' Design Award Winner, Showcased at College for Creative Studies
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Camila Lerena's Florencia Lounge Chair draws inspiration from the Ghost Orchid, native to South Florida, known for its levitating appearance. The chair's seamless frame imitates the orchid's swinging sepals and petals, encapsulating an enchanting sensation.
The chair's unique properties include a smooth continuous frame with zero hardware joints, making it simple to construct and clean. The hooked fabric offers a comfortable, hammock-like spot to unwind, adapting to the user's contour and easily interchangeable.
Realized using casted aluminum, the chair's technical specifications include dimensions of 939.8 mm x 889 mm x 1016 mm, with a seat pan height of 431.8 mm and armrest height of 660.4 mm.
The Florencia Lounge Chair was exhibited at the College for Creative Studies Student Exhibition and Industry Day in May 2022, having been completed in the same month. Lerena's research process involved creating a mood board to encapsulate the desired sensation and adaptability of the chair, aiming to raise points about furniture lifespan and adaptability.
The most significant challenge in designing the chair was allowing the fabric to hang downward for a hammock feel while providing structural support in a seemingly delicate design.
