Architect Vasilis Mylonas Unveils Cubes Aleorion, a Contemporary Lighthouse for the Port of Volos, Greece
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Architect Vasilis Mylonas unveils Cubes Aleorion, a contemporary lighthouse proposal for the port of Volos, Greece. Inspired by the ancient Aleorion of Xerxes, this modern interpretation stands as a testament to maritime history and safety.
The Cubes Aleorion is a striking tower formed by cube-shaped concrete blocks, each slightly shifted off-center and intricately cut to create internal voids housing a stairway to the top. This design pays homage to the ancient Aleorion of Xerxes, which dates back to 480 BC, offering a unique blend of history and modernity.
The design concept was meticulously developed, with the tower reaching a height of 14.25m, echoing the materiality of the port breakwater and the urban character of its surroundings. The lighthouse not only serves as a functional structure but also as a new landmark for the port and the city, enriching the waterfront promenade and inviting visitors to explore its unique perspectives of the bay.
