Niamh Faherty's Quilling piece "Archangel Michael" is a heartfelt creation inspired by a family story, aiming to bring comfort and protection to its viewers.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Niamh Faherty's "Archangel Michael" is a meticulously crafted Quilling piece, measuring 780mm x 20mm x 530mm, framed in a hardwood frame with UV-protected glass. The inspiration for this piece came from a family story, where the badge for Archangel Michael fell into Niamh's mother's pocket, bringing comfort during a difficult time. The piece is designed to greet guests at their home, creating an impact and drawing the viewer's eye closer to appreciate its details.
Using 3mm strips of colored card, Niamh created this unique piece by hand, facing challenges in knowing when to finish the intricate design. The project commenced in March 2018 on the Aran Islands and was completed by the end of April 2018. Niamh conducted thorough research to ensure the authenticity of the representation of Archangel Michael, carefully choosing elements and colors to reflect the essence of the subject.
Niamh Faherty, an animator and paper artist from Galway, Ireland, has a deep-rooted passion for traditional craftsmanship, evident in her dedication to creating detailed Quilling work using only paper and glue. Her exceptional creation "Archangel Michael" was honored with the Iron A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its practicality, innovation, and professional excellence.
