Renowned designer Dan Shao unveils the Hui lounge table and chair set, a fusion of Huizhou architectural aesthetics and modern furniture design, completed in May 2022 in Fuzhou.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dan Shao's Hui lounge table and chair set draws inspiration from the architectural aesthetics of Huizhou, integrating traditional elements with modern furniture design. The furniture is characterized by the classical and stable design, making it suitable for contemporary homes. The set features a unique combination of the Ma Tau Wall's shape and the gatehouse, creating a distinctive and culturally rich furniture ensemble.
Constructed from beech, leather, and glass, the furniture showcases Chinese traditional architectural mortise and tenon joint craftsmanship. The lounge table and chair set is designed to create a space for relaxation, with the table offering dual layers for storage and the chair providing soft, comfortable support for leisure activities such as reading and tea drinking.
Shao's research methodology for this conceptual study involved field research, user interviews, and focus groups, aiming to refine and redesign traditional Chinese culture while integrating national native elements into modern furniture designs. The project, initiated in October 2021 in Fuzhou, reflects Shao's dedication to the inheritance and innovation of Chinese traditional culture.
Dan Shao, a Ph.D. student at National Taipei University of Technology, has applied for 5 national patents and published 11 related academic papers. With a focus on socially responsible design, Shao's innovative furniture design has garnered numerous accolades, including the Iron A' Design Award in 2023, recognizing the fusion of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics in the Hui lounge table and chair set.
