The Hsichih Mazu Temple, designed by Yullin Wang of MPI Design LLC., is a revolutionary project that reinterprets traditional temple architecture in Taiwan. The design concept is inspired by light, symbolizing Goddess Mazu as a beacon of faith. The temple's unique cantilevered observation deck, designed like a boat, pays homage to Goddess Mazu's journey across the sea.

This project is a departure from traditional temple architecture, incorporating an orientalist approach and vertical development in Gothic architecture. The temple, planned to stand for over 1,000 years, features an exterior made of architectural concrete to withstand the rainy and humid climate of its location.

The temple's exterior curves are perfected with a metal structure wrapped inside a glass wall, creating a seamless and visually striking design. The swallowtail-shaped temple stands 45 meters tall and is a fusion of traditional materials such as stone and cement, with modern reinforced concrete and steel.

The temple's design team transformed the concept of flying eaves into a swallowtail shape, symbolizing Goddess Mazu's journey to Taiwan across the ocean. The roof observation deck, designed as a ship's hull, offers visitors an immersive experience, evoking the imagery of waves and suspension as if floating on a ship.

The Hsichih Mazu Temple project began in April 2019, with design completion in June 2020. The temple's innovative design is a result of extensive research into Eastern and Western religious architecture, combining elements of faith and culture to create a new form of temple that embraces the environment, culture, and life of its inhabitants.

This groundbreaking design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry category in 2022, showcasing its outstanding creativity and contribution to quality of life improvements.
