Yaping Shao, a student from Zhejiang University, has developed Carbon Dashboard, an innovative mobile application designed to visualize personal carbon emissions data, aiming to raise awareness and encourage environmental protection.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yaping Shao, along with a team of designers, has created Carbon Dashboard, a mobile application that utilizes algorithms to calculate daily carbon emissions based on individual consumption and action routes. The app aims to transform consumption behavior data into a visualization of carbon emissions, providing users with a clearer understanding of their environmental impact.
Designed for iOS platforms, the app is optimized for various screen sizes, with a specific focus on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. By socially ranking carbon emissions and categorizing their sources, users are encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint, contributing to environmental protection efforts.
The project, which commenced in September 2020 and concluded in May 2021 in China, involved extensive research and user interviews to develop a prototype interface for Carbon Dashboard. The main challenge faced during the project was the algorithm for transforming carbon emissions and consumption behavior data, with the goal of empowering users to make more informed decisions to protect the environment.
Yaping Shao's vision for Carbon Dashboard is to raise awareness of high-carbon behaviors, inspiring users to take action to protect the environment. The app has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects, and Green Design category in 2022.
