Hi Jac introduces "Walk Me," a sustainable dog leash made from 100% post-consumer plastic, designed to provide a comfortable and ergonomic grip while prioritizing sustainability. The project commenced in September 2019 and concluded in November 2020 in Sydney, Australia.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hi Jac introduces "Walk Me," a revolutionary dog leash designed to address the limitations of conventional leashes. The handle, inspired by knuckle dusters, offers a comfortable and sturdy grip, preventing the human hand from squishing when the dog pulls on the leash. The handle is made from 100% post-consumer plastic, while the rope is crafted from 100% R-pet, ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly design.
The ergonomic design of the handle ensures a snug grip for the human hand, absorbing tension from the dog's pulling motion. Each handle features a distinctive pattern formed during the molding and baking process, making every piece unique. The leash handle is produced via compression molding from used plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles, which are shredded, sorted by color, and then sprinkled into the mold before being baked and cooled.
Designed by People & Things in Sydney, Australia, "Walk Me" underwent extensive research and testing to ensure its ergonomic, aesthetic, and sustainable qualities. The project faced challenges related to sustainability and design aesthetics, leading to the development of a labor-intensive yet visually appealing manufacturing process.
HI JAC®, a female-founded and owned pet accessories retailer from Mosman, Australia, focuses on redesigning conventional pet accessories to follow circularity principles and use sustainable materials. The company's dedication to sustainability is reflected in the distinctive patterns of the "Walk Me" leash handle, formed from recycled plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles, aligning with their mantra, "Play nice with the Planet®."
