JP House: Minimalist Residential Flat Design

Cheng Wen Tang's JP House is a unique residential flat design that breaks away from the mundane and formal, embracing a minimalist approach while preserving the original spatial height in the public domain. Inspired by the client's large book collection, the concept of Deconstruction of Books led to the articulation of key aesthetic values through the display of ink strokes, creating a space characterized by virtual, real, loose, and intense elements.

Utilizing main building materials such as Lotos plaster, Italian pastellone floor, KD painted timber veneer board, frosted glass, and metal, the design features an interior area of 78 square meters with a balcony of 10.1 square meters. The interior layout includes 2 bedrooms, a living room, dining room, 2 bathrooms, and a walk-in closet, all designed to reflect the client's desire for a departure from the mundane.

The project, which commenced in October 2018 and concluded in January 2019, posed creative, technical, and research challenges that were overcome by simplifying and abandoning complex elements. The elegant exposed Industrial Loft Style, devoid of deliberate ceiling work, successfully achieved the client's vision while incorporating the unique inspiration from Chinese texts and ink strokes.
