Ching Yu Chen's "Love" Redefines Church Space Design

Ching Yu Chen's "Love" project is a revolutionary approach to church space design, aiming to foster cross-ethnic cohesion and convey the abstract concept of love through natural materials and zero-distance design techniques. The project embodies a multi-functional space, serving as a church on weekends, a senior day care center on weekdays, and a youth gathering space, gym, and dance practice area. The design reflects the ideal state of caring for the old, nurturing the young, and providing employment for adults.

The project's realization technology focuses on sound-proof construction, utilizing aluminum ceiling sound barrier boards, wood fiber boards, eco-friendly plastic-wood grilles, and fire-proof sound-absorbing foam boards to ensure minimal disturbance to neighbors. The 990m2 space features trunking for network connections, live streaming systems, and skin-friendly, stress-relieving materials such as warm wood finishing and an organic green wall with a grey-toned stone pattern.

Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project adapted by incorporating communication software and live streaming equipment, transforming the main hall into a shooting and editing studio to provide spiritual support for church members. The design's innovative approach and adaptability make it a standout in the realm of church space design.
