Chris Tsui's Fold bench challenges the traditional concept of public seating by seamlessly integrating the functionality of a table with a sleek and sturdy bench design. The inspiration for Fold stemmed from the need to create a piece of furniture that not only provides seating but also caters to activities such as enjoying a coffee, reading a book, or working on a laptop in public spaces.

The Fold bench stands out with its unique ability to transform from a traditional bench into a functional table, offering users the flexibility to adapt the furniture to their specific needs. Crafted from plywood and bronze, the design showcases a simple yet innovative approach to public seating, enhancing both the visual appeal and practicality of urban furniture.

With overall dimensions of 1480(L) x 1010(W) x 730(H)mm, the Fold bench represents a harmonious blend of form and function, providing a versatile solution for modern urban environments. The project, initiated in early 2019 and completed in late 2019, reflects Tsui's dedication to redefining public seating experiences through thoughtful and creative design.

The realization of the Fold bench presented technical challenges, particularly in bending the plywood to achieve the desired angle for comfortable seating while maintaining structural integrity. Additionally, the strategic placement of the legs was crucial to ensure sturdiness without compromising the design's proportions and balance.

Chris Tsui's Fold bench design not only reimagines public seating but also exemplifies the fusion of art, science, and technology to enhance the quality of urban life.
