Shiding Tea Ceremony Classroom Design

XIE MIN XUAN's Shiding Tea Ceremony Classroom project is a remarkable fusion of tradition and modernity, reimagining a high school classroom in Taipei, Taiwan, as a serene tea art space. The design draws inspiration from the historical significance of tea serving in early Taiwanese society, aiming to revive the spirit of giving and hospitality. Completed in April 2019, the project seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering openness and connectivity while removing barriers of trust.

The design's unique use of large windows eliminates man-made barriers, reflecting the spatial ideology of tea hospitality. By creating an open environment, it enhances interaction and communication between individuals, transcending the traditional classroom setting. The incorporation of natural elements, such as bamboo ceilings and a large glass and wooden platform, brings the tranquility of the surrounding landscape into the interior space.

Challenges such as addressing safety concerns and preserving the historical significance of the space were overcome through meticulous planning and execution. The project's realization technology involved the strategic use of wood materials to reflect the fusion of Japanese and Taiwanese tea art, symbolizing the Zen and life attitude of Taiwanese tea art.

XIE MIN XUAN's Shiding Tea Ceremony Classroom has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2020, celebrating its outstanding contribution to interior space, retail, and exhibition design. The project stands as a testament to the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with its desirable characteristics.
