Riya Kuvavala's Innovative Solution to Water Pollution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Boat BioLogs: Transforming Boats into Solutions

Riya Kuvavala's Boat BioLogs, a collaborative project with the London boat community, addresses the rising water pollution in the United Kingdom's canals. These bioremediating floating gardens are designed to be installed on boats, incentivizing boaters with the luxury of a private garden while combating canal water pollution.

The DIY strategy makes the gardens adaptable and affordable, aligning with the boater’s self-sufficient lifestyle. Using biodegradable, long-lasting, rust and corrosion-resistant materials, the gardens utilize locally sourced components and native plants to effectively break down pollutants and absorb the rest.

Boat BioLogs not only provide a solution to water pollution but also promote community-driven awareness and action through a unique app-based interaction. The project, which started in December 2020 and ended in June 2021 in London, has garnered international recognition, including a Silver A' Design Award in 2023.
