Wenzhou Urban Wetland Museum Redefines the Relationship Between Landscape and Architecture

AUSTRALIA -- /DESIGN/newswire -- Oct 01, 2019

The Wenzhou Urban Wetland Museum, designed by Paul Bo Peng, integrates nature and culture, offering a unique experience for visitors in Wenzhou, China.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paul Bo Peng's Vision for the Wenzhou Urban Wetland Museum

Located in Wenzhou, China, the Wenzhou Urban Wetland Museum stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of nature and architecture. The project, completed in 2017, spans 20000㎡ and redefines the relationship between landscape and architecture, offering a cultural space for diverse groups to connect.

The museum's design is a fusion of traditional Chinese architectural and landscape typologies with contemporary elements, creating inter-mingling spaces that lead visitors through different levels of interiority and exteriority. The organic form of the building follows the natural texture of the wetlands, allowing the wetlands to pass through the empty space, forming a unique wetland experience with a boat tour area.

Paul Bo Peng and his team overcame the challenge of transforming the museum into an ecological building that harmonizes the flow between humanity and nature, while maintaining both characteristics. The museum is designed to radiate throughout the entire city, becoming an important public expo-building in Wenzhou.

The Wenzhou Urban Wetland Museum was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that authenticates experience and resourcefulness, contributing to quality of life improvements.
