Simran Tapadia's "Sati" Comic Book

Simran Tapadia, an art enthusiast from Mumbai, India, has unveiled "Sati," a captivating comic book that delves into the Indian tradition of Sati, reimagined through the lens of Van Gogh's art style. The comic book aims to showcase the emotional turmoil and sacrifices made by women in the name of religion, offering a fresh perspective on this historical practice.

Tapadia's unique approach to storytelling and artistry sets "Sati" apart from traditional comic books. By infusing Van Gogh's distinctive style into the narrative, she successfully captures the essence of the ritual, evoking a sense of awe and empathy in readers.

The project, which commenced in October 2018 and concluded in December 2018, presented several creative and technical challenges for Tapadia. From meticulously storyboarding the 12-part narrative to infusing each page with vibrant colors that reflect the emotional depth of the story, Tapadia's dedication to her craft is evident throughout the 20-page comic book.

Simran Tapadia's "Sati" has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2020. This prestigious accolade acknowledges the comic book's innovative and practical design, as well as its ability to meet professional and industrial standards while integrating industry best practices.
