FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tomori Aid: A Game-Changing Lantern Kit for Disaster Relief

YUJI YANAGISAWA's Tomori Aid is a groundbreaking lighting kit that transforms the light of a linear LED flashlight into the soft glow of a lantern, inspired by the designer's firsthand experience during a typhoon-induced evacuation in Japan. Crafted from cardboard, this collapsible kit is easy to assemble and can convert any flashlight of the right size into a lantern, ensuring a reliable light source during emergencies. With dimensions designed to fit in an A4 size when folded, it is highly portable and convenient for evacuation scenarios. The innovative design allows for the substitution of flashlights, eliminating concerns about lighting failures in critical situations.

Tomori Aid not only serves as a disaster prevention supply but also doubles as a modern lighting solution for everyday use. Its unique blend of portability and appealing design makes it suitable for both emergency situations and daily life, offering a versatile and sustainable lighting option. The project, which commenced in November 2019 in Tokyo and concluded in February 2021, was driven by the urgent need for indirect lighting solutions during power outages, particularly in evacuation shelters. YUJI YANAGISAWA's meticulous research and creative approach have resulted in a product that seamlessly integrates functionality and aesthetics, addressing the challenges of both disaster relief and everyday lighting needs.

YUJI YANAGISAWA, a Tokyo-based designer, has a passion for using design and ideas to enhance people's lives. With a background in interior design and extensive experience working as a freelance designer in London and Berlin, YUJI YANAGISAWA's commitment to problem-solving and improving quality of life through design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2022. This accolade highlights the exceptional creativity and resourcefulness embodied in Tomori Aid, showcasing its significant contribution to enhancing the quality of life and making the world a better place.
