Renowned designer Torgeir Stige unveils the Sandane Ping Pong Table, a functional public art installation, near Daelenenga idrettspark, Gruenerloekka, Oslo, Norway.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer Torgeir Stige has unveiled the Sandane Ping Pong Table, a unique and functional public art installation located near Daelenenga idrettspark, Gruenerloekka, Oslo, Norway. Inspired by the simplicity and accessibility of table tennis, the project aims to honor the game with a sculptural table designed for the urban environment.
The table, made from minimalistic plates of steel painted with dark reflective paint, creates a strict frame, while a chain of wooden spheres works as a crossbeam, creating surprising optical illusions and depth. The design, started in March 2017 and completed in March 2019, is a Silver A' Design Award winner, recognized for its outstanding expertise and innovation in street and city furniture design.
Placed in a busy area of Oslo, the Sandane Ping Pong Table is accessible to many, adding a social aspect to the project. The design is not only visually striking but also robust enough to withstand weather, potential vandalism, and heavy usage, making it an ideal addition to the urban landscape.
