Adamas: Origami-Inspired Floor Lamp

Francesca Schiavello, an Italian architect, introduces the Adamas floor lamp, a stunning blend of delicate origami and robust metal. The inspiration for this unique design stemmed from Schiavello's desire to create a light for her apartment, leading her to explore the behavior of paper through the technique of origami. The lamp's dual materiality, featuring a metal pedestal and a carefully handmade paper lampshade, creates a captivating dialogue between lightness and stability.

The Adamas lamp stands at 36 x 25 x 146.5 cm, with a structure crafted from iron and brass, and a lampshade made from FSC parchment paper. The deliberate soft and warm light emitted by the LED bulb (e27) adds to the lamp's allure, making it an ideal addition to any space.

During the two-year project, which commenced in Switzerland in 2018 and concluded in Milan in 2020, Schiavello delved into extensive research, studying paper behavior and origami techniques to perfect the lamp's design. Overcoming various creative and technical challenges, including the selection of the ideal paper and the design of the pedestal, Schiavello collaborated with skilled artisans to bring her vision to life.
