FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mahdokht Rezakhani's Dastbaf is a visually stunning board game that brings the art of Persian carpet weaving to the gaming table. The game's theme is deeply rooted in the cultural significance of Persian carpets, with player boards representing specific cities in Iran renowned for their handmade carpets. Rezakhani's meticulous design process involved studying Persian geometry, motif styles, and the impact of geographical location on carpet design changes.
The game's visual identity is a testament to Rezakhani's dedication to authenticity, as it follows the common symbolism and abstraction found in Persian carpet design. The product name, Dastbaf, pays homage to the common Persian title that specifies handmade rugs. The game's package illustration features color diversity and dancing motifs, empowering the visual identity and immersing players in the rich cultural heritage of Persian carpet weaving.
Rezakhani's creative vision and technical prowess shine through in the realization of Dastbaf, which was brought to life using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Fresco software. The game's package dimensions of 30 cm * 30 cm * 6.5 cm ensure a captivating and immersive gaming experience for players.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Dastbaf is the central playboard, an octagonal-shaped board featuring five arched structures to accommodate five players. The day and night features in the illustration serve to direct players' actions in different playing processes, evoking the visual atmosphere of an old Persian Bazaar. Through numerous playtest sessions, Rezakhani ensured that the game's components were not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional, allowing players to interact with each other and immerse themselves in the captivating narrative of the game.
From its inception in November 2020 in Tehran to its completion in May 2021, Dastbaf has garnered recognition for its innovative approach to blending art, culture, and gaming. Rezakhani's artistic prowess, honed through her studies in painting at Tehran University, shines through in this cultural project, which seamlessly integrates her passion for illustration and her extensive research into Persian visual identity.
