Peng Zhang's Half of the Mountain Homestay

Peng Zhang's "Half of the Mountain" project is a unique homestay design that seamlessly integrates local culture, history, and design elements with a touch of innovation. The project, located in the scenic spot of Jintan Maoshan, Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, was completed between January 1st, 2020, and February 10th, 2020.

The design features a perfect fusion of traditional and innovative elements, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the diversified space of the b&b while experiencing the local landscape, Taoist culture, and the natural style of Maoshan Mountain. The building renovation and regional landscape are achieved through the use of traditional materials such as rammed earth, green tiles, raw stone, log, and bamboo, creating a harmonious blend with nature.

Utilizing local bamboo, rammed earth, clay plaster, and traditional clay-fired green tiles, the interior and exterior decorations showcase a commitment to eco-friendly and traditional design. The project also involves the local community by offering opportunities for tourists to participate in tea production and packaging experiences, contributing to the local economy and promoting non-material cultural arts and crafts.

Peng Zhang's dedication to preserving traditional Chinese architecture and materials is evident in the meticulous research and application of techniques such as "rammed earth" and "clay plaster." Overcoming challenges posed by variable weather conditions and a tight construction schedule, the project stands as a testament to Zhang's innovative and resilient approach to design.

About Peng Zhang: Zhang Peng, a senior certified designer, has been a prominent figure in the design industry for about 20 years. His commitment to non-label design and exploration of various commercial space designs has earned him accolades, including the Silver A' Design Award in 2020 for the Half of the Mountain project.
