Shanghai PTArchitects repurposes a sales center into a unique kindergarten, inspired by the natural landscape and cultural elements of Wuhan, China.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shanghai PTArchitects has transformed a sales center into an innovative kindergarten, inspired by the natural landscape and cultural elements of Wuhan, China. The project, named Yuexiu Hanyang Starry Winking, is located around the Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge, with a design concept derived from the exclusive water elements of Wuhan.
The project's design features a progressive spatial layout that ensures visitors experience an ever-changing landscape while walking. The architects faced the challenge of shifting the building between two architectural types, ultimately selecting a modular surface with rhythmic changes to create a playful architectural facade that can satisfy the needs of both the sales center and the kindergarten.
The building materials chosen for the project include prefabricated GRC (glass-fiber reinforced cement), which was transported as a whole and pieced together on-site to reduce cracks and maintain a better appearance. The design also incorporates water as a major element, cascading from the building to the landscape space, ultimately merging into the surrounding environment.
Located in Hanyang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, the project was realized between December 2017 and July 2019. The design team carefully built spaces that change rhythmically, creating a demonstration area where visitors can have unique experiences. The project was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in 2021 for its innovative and trendsetting design.
