Introducing PneuBots, a modular soft robotics construction kit designed by Hye Jun Youn, aimed at reducing barriers to entry and enabling playful exploration of soft robotics.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hye Jun Youn introduces PneuBots, a modular soft robotics construction kit designed to lower barriers to entry and encourage playful exploration of soft robotics. The kit consists of seven self-foldable segments, pneumatic connectors, and a custom-designed box, allowing creators to build various assemblies and delve into the world of soft robotics.
The PneuBots modules were developed using a heat-pressing fabrication process, resulting in accurate and smooth geometric patterns. With different actuation patterns, including shrinking, curling, and bending, PneuBots allows seamless programmability, enabling creators to craft dynamic, shape-changing, and interactive works for education, storytelling, and art.
Starting in Korea in June 2021 and completed in the US in January 2022, PneuBots is the result of extensive research and user feedback, aiming to address barriers and obstacles faced by non-technical backgrounds in soft robotics. The project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its innovative and creative approach to soft robotics education and exploration.
