Backbone Branding's latest project, the Mirzam: Monsters Collection, is a captivating interpretation of Arabic fictional tales, brought to life through handcrafted bean-to-bar chocolate packaging. The unique design takes consumers on a journey from myth to reality, with interactive elements that reveal a fascinating narrative.

Backbone Branding's collaboration with UAE-based chocolate-makers resulted in the creation of the Mirzam: Monsters Collection, a packaging line inspired by mythical monsters from Arabic sea trade stories. The design aims to scare off competitors, featuring captivating illustrations of these creatures.
The packaging's unique feature lies in its interactive elements, where the sliding sleeve reveals a dual narrative. Initially, the monsters are prominently displayed, representing the tales told by merchants. However, removing the sleeve uncovers a new reality, showcasing starlight and ocean patterns, symbolizing the fantastic mythical beasts.
The project, realized in Yerevan, Armenia, involved a meticulous design process, incorporating stencil-like elements to make the monsters' illustrations visible through the packaging's window. The use of paper as the primary material enhances the storytelling aspect, creating an immersive experience for consumers.
With a focus on storytelling, the Backbone Branding team overcame the challenge of conveying a deep narrative within limited packaging space. The result is a visually stunning and emotionally engaging design that celebrates the romance and adventure of ancient sea trade routes.
