Festival Identity System Inspired by "Interstellar" Unveiled by Ching-Fa Lung

Renowned designer Ching-Fa Lung has unveiled the futuristic festival identity system for SciFest Los Angeles, drawing inspiration from the science fiction movie "Interstellar." The dimensional typeface, a central visual element, is set to frame various applications throughout the festival.

SciFest LA, an 8-day hypothetical film festival, will showcase classic science fiction movies from 1970 to 2017, offering a diverse range of sub-genres such as action, animation, and mystery. Lung's design aims to create a unique and immersive experience for the audience.

Utilizing the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects, in conjunction with Maxon Cinema 4D, Lung has incorporated Artivive and Spark AR software to create an augmented reality experience for the festival.

The festival's posters are designed to interact with augmented reality, allowing viewers to experience the dimensionalities of the posters and engage with them. The festival's app and website interfaces will provide a preview of the events and contents through kinetic 3D graphic treatments, offering an immersive experience.

Ching-Fa Lung's project commenced in December 2017 and concluded in December 2019 in Pasadena. Lung's extensive research involved watching classic sci-fi movies to draw design elements from the commonalities of the genre, combining physics with imaginative and creative elements.

The festival identity system has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, acknowledging its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach that meets professional and industrial requirements.
