Renowned textile artist Pallavi Padukone unveils Reminiscent, a unique collection of fragrant textiles designed to integrate scents into hand-made textiles for an immersive sensory experience.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pallavi Padukone's Reminiscent collection is a groundbreaking exploration of integrating scents into textiles for an immersive sensory experience. Inspired by the calming effect of lavender during the lockdown, Padukone reimagines textiles as aromatherapy to reconnect with nature, nostalgia, home, and identity.
Utilizing natural materials and innovative techniques, Reminiscent features handcrafted textiles infused with the calming scent of jasmine, reminiscent of Padukone's hometown of Bengaluru, India. The collection includes Jasmine I, crafted with scented embellishment, and Jasmine II, featuring accessible pockets to store flowers and fragrances.
Padukone's innovative approach involves a natural coating for cotton yarn as a carrier for fragrances, which is then embroidered onto sheer organza silk. The fragrances can be customized based on the user's preference and are released strongly when the textiles are placed in direct contact with heat.
Moreover, the textiles are made from biodegradable materials, including dyes that are less harmful to the environment. The impermanence of the scents serves as a reminder of their completely natural state, creating a multi-sensorial experience for the user.
The Reminiscent collection was exhibited at New York Textile Month in September 2020, receiving acclaim for its innovative approach to textile design and fragrance integration.
Pallavi Padukone is a New York-based textile artist and designer with a Master in Fine Arts in Textiles from Parsons School of Design. Her award-winning designs integrate fragrance and textiles, showcasing embroidery, weaving, embellishment, natural dyeing, and innovating with sustainable materials.
