Andre Eid's Innovative Multifunctional Chair: The Trillium

Andre Eid, an interior designer, drew inspiration from a flower ornament to create The Trillium, a multifunctional chair designed for modern living spaces. Overcoming the challenge of creating a mechanism for the chair, Eid has realized a unique and elegant piece of furniture.

The Trillium stands out with its individual, minimalist, and modern shape, reflecting the softness, beauty, and simplicity of the Trillium flower. Its unique design allows for transformation from a regular chair to a relaxing or long chair in two simple movements, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Made entirely from high-quality stainless steel, The Trillium features a structure of the seat and backrest, crossed belts, and multi-layered sponge covered with fabric or leather. In its regular chair configuration, it measures 1300mm in length, 650mm in width, and 950mm in height. In the long chair configuration, the dimensions are 1420mm in length, 650mm in width, and 820mm in height.

The chair's unique functionality is achieved through three cushions, with two of them moving together. The rotational movement of the seat cushion and the backrest allows for the transformation from a regular chair to a long chair, providing versatility and comfort.

Initiated in 2017, the design of The Trillium underwent multiple modifications to ensure durability, stability, resilience, and finesse. The final prototype was completed in December 2018, showcasing the designer's dedication to creating a high-quality product.

Despite encountering challenges related to stability and durability, Eid has continuously improved the design, considering the use of different materials and working on design modifications to enhance the chair's functionality and ease of shipping.

The Trillium has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2019, highlighting its well-designed, practical, and innovative characteristics that meet professional and industrial requirements.
