Easy Arch revitalizes a traditional community service center in Beijing's historic hutong district, creating a multi-functional space for residents, promoting urban micro-renewal and community interaction.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Easy Arch, a renowned design firm, has unveiled the transformation of the Xinghua Community Center in the heart of Beijing's historic Changqiao Hutong. The project, aimed at addressing the lack of public space, introduces a multi-functional space that integrates various amenities, including salon experiences, offices, art spaces, and fitness areas, to rejuvenate the traditional community.
The unique feature of the design lies in its preservation of the surrounding ecology while fostering interaction between the community and residents. The use of interactive windows connects the exterior to the interior, promoting openness and engagement.
The project utilizes low-cost environmentally friendly materials, in line with the characteristics of the hutong, and introduces square windows to enhance interaction without expanding the openings, thus saving costs and energy.
The Xinghua Community Center boasts a gross floor area of 380 m2 and a 220 m2 roof terrace, providing ample space for various community activities and events.
Located in an important historical and cultural district, the center serves as a catalyst for urban micro-renewal, offering a platform for merchants to plan engaging activities for the community. Additionally, the center collaborates with local artisans to host intangible cultural heritage salon experiences, enriching the lives of the surrounding residents.
The renovation project, which commenced in April 2020 and concluded in January 2021, has injected new experiences into hutong life, fostering a sense of close interaction and creating a valuable public space in the heart of Beijing.
Easy Arch's innovative approach has overcome challenges such as the lack of public space and limited government subsidies, demonstrating the firm's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for surrounding residents and preserving traditional culture.
