The project aimed to create a unique building using mass-produced components, resulting in a two-storey structure with a flat roof, corrugated metal walls, and a mild steel frame. The building features a distinctive corrugated polycarbonate sheet facade, allowing natural light to illuminate the interior space.
The building was completed in just 75 days, showcasing the efficient use of time and resources in its construction. The design team, including Nischal Abhaykumar, Jesal Pathak, Preethi B Raju, and Karamveer Singh, overcame the challenge of integrating a new structure without overpowering the existing building, which was a 50-year-old residence with a garden café utilized for events.
The Courtyard serves as a community space for various workshops, art performances, and social gatherings. It also houses a café and provides a dedicated space for people to engage with diverse art forms. The project involved refurbishing an existing space and introducing an additional structure to elevate its purpose, resulting in a unique blend of two buildings from different eras.
