Chhavi Hoiman's innovative residential house design, Nomadless, redefines small space living in Hong Kong with its unique blend of functionality and tranquility.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In the midst of the bustling city of Hong Kong, Chhavi Hoiman has created a serene haven with Nomadless, a residential house that offers a breath of fresh air amidst the urban chaos. This 320 sq.ft public housing unit is a testament to simplicity, functionality, and a deep connection with nature, providing a refuge from the nomadic lifestyle.
The unique strength of Nomadless lies in its ability to cater to various needs within a compact space. Drawing inspiration from Zen emptiness theory and utilizing raw pale teak wood, the design seamlessly integrates natural sunlight and traditional Hong Kong elements, creating a space that can transform from a theater to a Zen tea house, a mini library to an artistic working studio, and even a dining area for up to 15 guests.
Utilizing innovative design and technology, Nomadless features transformable furniture that allows for self-enjoyment or hosting large groups of friends. The space is designed to invite natural sunlight and breeze, creating a harmonious environment that adapts to the changing needs of its inhabitants.
Chhavi Hoiman's vision for Nomadless came to life in Hong Kong, with the project commencing in April 2018 and reaching completion in October 2018. The design was born out of the need for a more flexible and interchangeable living space within the constraints of Hong Kong's highly packed public estate.
Despite the challenges posed by the compact space, Chhavi Hoiman and the design team overcame technical and creative obstacles to bring Nomadless to fruition. The project was a winner of the prestigious A' Design Award in 2021, receiving recognition for its practicality, innovation, and seamless integration of industry best practices.
