Shota Urasaki unveils "Cloud," a chair inspired by the natural beauty of Okinawa, Japan, and designed to evoke the serene experience of sitting on a cloud during rainfall.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shota Urasaki, a designer for Yamaha Corporation, presents "Cloud," a chair that captures the essence of nature's beauty. Inspired by the captivating sight of rain clouds over the coast of Okinawa, this unique chair features a cloud-like seating surface created by piercing polyester fiber into polyurethane foam with a needle. The high seat gives the sitter a floating sensation, while mirror-like stainless steel legs and pedestal express the imagery of rain.
Handmade using stainless steel, polyester fiber, wood, and polyurethane foam, "Cloud" measures 1000mm in width, 900mm in depth, and 600mm in height. The design process began in April 2019 and concluded in October 2019, resulting in a poetic product that enriches the user's emotions and visually enhances the surrounding space.
Urasaki's commitment to creating designs inspired by nature led to the development of "Cloud," which received the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2020. This accolade recognizes the chair's exceptional craftsmanship and its ability to evoke a sense of wonder and tranquility, making it a truly remarkable addition to any space.
